Oregon Bounty, the culinary tourism initiative of Travel Oregon (the state's travel and tourism bureau) announced a very cool contest this week offering seven lucky foodies the chance to win a "cuisinternship" where they will spend a week with an artisanal food/beverage producer located in Oregon.
You don't have to be an Oregon resident to enter, since part of the prize includes R/T airfare, six nights lodging and $1,000 in cash. Visit the contest website at
http://bounty.traveloregon.com/ for more details, including a FAQ. Entrants must create a video explaining why they should win.
The seven cuisinternships offer real-life experience with different food and beverage artisans: winemaker, fisherman, chocolate & cheesemaker, distiller, rancher, brewmaster and chef.
I love this idea because it gives hard core foodies the chance to jump head-first into the life of those who make great food and beverages for a living. It also could prove to be a real eye-opener for those thinking about starting their own food business.
